Mark Williams

Mark Williams was the Accompanist and Assistant Conductor of the City of London Choir between 2001 and 2009, and since 2012 has held the title of Principal Guest Conductor. He has accompanied the choir as pianist, organist and harpsichordist in numerous concerts and on several recordings and has directed the choir in works by Rossini, Mozart, Vaughan Williams, George Shearing, Haydn and Bach.

In January 2017, after eight years as Director of Music at Jesus College, Cambridge, Mark took up the post of Choir Master, Organist and Tutorial Fellow in Music at Magdalen College, Oxford.

Mark studied at Trinity College Cambridge and at the age of 21 was appointed Assistant Organist of St Paul’s Cathedral in London and Director of Music at St Paul’s Cathedral School. He relinquished both posts in April of 2006 in order to pursue greater performing opportunities and for three years enjoyed a varied freelance career.

Described as ‘the shooting star of the international organ scene’ (Berliner Zeitung) and ‘a brilliant, fiery talent’ (The Oregonian), he has appeared in the UK, Europe and America with many of the UK’s leading ensembles both live and on disc. He is a trustee of a number of musical charities in the UK and abroad and in March 2013 led the Choir of Jesus College in a pioneering musical project collaborating with children in the slums of Mumbai.
